Kids ministry Volunteer Guidelines

All volunteers must have a background check (unless they are under 18) and be cleared to work in our classrooms. They also need to talk with the Children’s Directors about the classrooms, what their particular role is, ect. before they begin volunteering.

The nursery and preschool classrooms need to have two volunteers in them at all times. If a volunteer needs to step out for any reason, radio your service lead and they will step in. The older kids class only needs one volunteer, but should stand at the doorway until 2 children have arrived for the morning.

You can begin serving in the preschool class starting at 10 yrs of age with your parents with the directors and elders permission. They will follow the same procedures as the adults.

General guidelines

Volunteers should arrive at 10:15am to have a 15 min pre-meeting with the service leads for that week. They will then head to their classroom at 10:30am to greet children as they arrive.

Never discipline a child in any way. Instead, try to redirect the child to something different or give gentle reminders to follow the room rules. If a behavior problem arises & continues, please let the service lead or the Children’s director know immediately so they can remove the child & contact the parents.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Interact with children during free-play and get to know them

  • Teach the next Bible lesson in the curriculum and do verse review with them

  • Lead prayer and help them during snack time

  • Watch to make sure kids are playing safely

  • Guide them through their coloring pages and make sure they get to parents at the end of the service

  • Make sure classroom is picked up after the service

Nursery

Purpose

The nursery room is meant for children 12 weeks through 2 years years of age. This room is meant to provide a nurturing environment for children. This includes rocking, giving bottles, changing diapers, and playing with children throughout the service. Once all children are settled in and calm, they will have a small “circle time.” This is where volunteers will sing a gospel song and do a 2 min lesson that corresponds to the other classrooms. Afterwards, the children will have free play.

Nursery guidelines

Sanitize your hand immediately upon entering the room.

Please do not bring food or beverages (beside water) into the nursery. This is for the safety of the children and making sure we eliminate any unnecessary germ exposure (they love to grab straws) and choking hazards from the room.

Nursery Schedule

  • Check-In 10:30am

  • Circle Time 11:00am

  • Play 11:10am

  • Parent Pick-Up 12:00pm

Preschool

Purpose

The preschool room is meant for children 3-5 year olds. This room is where we start to work on sitting through a Bible lesson, practice a verse (through songs), and reviewing what we’ve learned through games and coloring sheets. In this class, we also begin to have the child “serve” upstairs by singing on occasion and taking part in plays.

Preschool guidelines

Sanitize your hands immediately upon entering the room.

Please keep your phone away from 10:30am till the end of the service, even during free play. The free play time is meant to be an intentional time you can connect with your students and learn more about them.

If you want to take them outside, please use the rope for line-up and have them all hold onto the rope until you get to the gated play area. In addition, let the service lead know, so safety team can come outside with you Please change your sign to “outside,” so if parents come down, they know where your class is.

Preschool Schedule:

  • Check-In 10:30am

  • Lesson 11:00am

  • Video Song 11:10am

  • Coloring pg. 11:15am

Children’s Church

Purpose

This room is meant for children 5-10 years old. This room is where we work on sitting through a longer Bible lesson that is led by a teacher in place of video, practice a verse, and review have the children search for passages in the Bible for themselves. We still have games and coloring sheets that are age appropriate. This class does not meet on the 1st Sunday of the month. On the first Sunday of the month, these kids are upstairs worshiping alongside their parents.

Children’s church guidelines

Sanitize your hands immediately upon entering the room.

Please keep your phone away from 10:30 am till the end of the service, even during free play. The free play time is meant to be an intentional time you can connect with your students and learn more about them.

If you want to take them outside, please use the gated area in between the storefront and Roger’s House and let the service lead know, so that safety team can be outside.

Please change your sign to “outside,” so if parents come down, they know where your class is.

If there is a new child, present the facts of outside play to the parents.
