Communion (Without Responsive Reading)

Setting Up

Something like this either directly or in your own words as the Spirit leads

“Our ushers can go ahead and come up. We’re now going to take communion”

“This is a sacrament of the church. It was instituted for us by Jesus himself the night before his crucifixion.”

“The scriptures tell us that we are taking this for a couple of reasons:

1. It’s a time to remember what has been done for us. The bread represents the body of Jesus, which was broken for us. The juice represents the blood of Jesus, which was shed to wash away our sins.

2. It’s a time to examine ourselves. It’s a time to consider our lives, our devotion, our worship, and confess where we fall short thanking God for his grace.

3. It is a time for unity. It’s a time for us to come to the table as a church and remember what truly binds us all together -Jesus. So if you’re a non-christian we ask that you let the plate pass.

As the ushers pass out the elements, remember the cups of bread and juice are stacked together so be careful as you grab both. Hold the elements and pray silently. We’ll take them all together in a moment

Let’s pray…”

Pray for grace in self examination and assurance of the presence of Jesus and his forgiveness.

Allow time for the ushers to pass out communion to everyone. Stay on stage during this time.

Partaking

“Concerning the bread the bible says…

Matthew 28:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body.

You may now take the bread

Concerning the cup the bible says…

Matthew 28:27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

You may now take the cup

I’ll pray and we’ll worship…” [pray for at least 20-30 seconds to give the rest of worship team time to get in position]

Praise Jesus for his salvation that we have just remembered and that his Spirit would stir us up to praise him greatly during the next few songs.
