Read the Didache

Have you ever read the Didache (pronounced “DIH-duh-kay”)? The word simply means “teaching,” and this short, early Christian document—often dated around the end of the first century and commonly associated with communities shaped by the apostles’ disciples—offers a fascinating window into what some of the earliest Christians emphasized as they sought to live out and teach the faith.

To be clear: the Didache isn’t inspired or authoritative, but it can still help us see how some early believers understood certain Christian practice and applied biblical instruction in real church life. It’s also very readable and doesn’t take long to get through.

It contains lines that strongly echo the mission and vision we want to implement at Griggs. Like “Rather, be meek, since the meek shall inherit the earth… You shall not exalt yourself… Your soul shall not be joined with lofty ones, but with the lowly.”

There’s many places to find the Didache for free like this website here.
